About your role: 

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Data Management Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and managing data management activities, including data mapping, data lineage, data dictionaries, and glossaries. Your efforts will ensure that our data is well-documented, accessible, and reliable for business use. You will support all British Gas Business Units and Data Owners in the development of data management processes, utilising available tools and technologies to implement data management principles effectively.

Key aspects of this role are:

• Data Mapping: Develop and maintain comprehensive data maps to ensure seamless data flow and integration across systems, enabling accurate and efficient data management.
• Data Lineage: Establish and manage data lineage processes to track data origins, movements, and transformations, ensuring transparency and reliability in data handling.
• Data Dictionaries: Create and maintain detailed data dictionaries that provide clear definitions and metadata for all data elements, fostering consistency and understanding across the organization.
• Data Glossaries: Develop and manage business glossaries to ensure consistent KPI definitions and terminology, promoting clarity and alignment within British Gas Business
• Technology Adoption: Leverage cutting-edge tools and technologies to implement robust Data Management principles, driving innovation and efficiency.
• Documentation: Ensure all data management processes and standards are meticulously documented and easily accessible, supporting best practices and compliance.
• Collaboration: Work closely with Data Stewards, Data Owners, and other stakeholders to align data management practices with business needs. Collaborate with Data & Analytics colleagues to seamlessly integrate Data Management practices into Data Product development.

Here's what we’re looking for: 

• Strong Experience and proven track record in Data Management or Data Governance, demonstrating expertise in managing and governing data effectively.
• Solid understanding of Data Management frameworks and industry best practices, ensuring high standards and compliance.
• Hands-on experience with Data Mapping, Data Modelling, Data Lineage, and Metadata Management tools, enabling efficient and accurate data handling.
• Experience working within data communities and technical environments, fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing.
• Demonstrated ability to perform activities in Data Mapping, Data Modelling, and Data Lineage, ensuring data integrity and consistency.
• Insight into what makes a successful Data Management service that seamlessly integrates into Data Products, enhancing overall data quality and usability.
