Job Description

The AECOM Asset Management team is actively seeking a Data Analyst for full-time  employment in its Burnaby, BC, office. The Data Analyst position will support the Asset Management Team in identifying, collecting, validating and transforming data with the purpose of allowing the team to utilize data driven decision making processes and reporting of metrics and dashboards for our projects and initiatives. In addition to a strong technical ability, you will have an innovative approach and ability to take on responsibility, communicate clearly and effectively, be organized and work collaboratively with other team members. This position is ideal for an individual who possesses an appropriate balance of both technical ability and people skills and will be assisting with the following:

  • Overseeing and updating the Canadian Infrastructure Benchmarking data dashboard in Power BI.
  • Overseeing and updating the benchmarking web-site.
  • Developing on-line surveys.
  • Working with the Asset Management Team to determine the data requirements for projects and identify the best practices for data collection, quality control, analysis and storage.
  • Extracting business requirements from clients by actively listening and comprehending complex information and identifying data to meet those requirements.
  • Developing and delivering training materials for data collection and dashboard systems.
  • Collecting data manually as required.
  • Proactively assessing the quality of the data captured.
  • Working closely with the Asset Management Team to prioritize data and information requests.
  • Responding to client data requests.
  • The Data Analyst’s responsibilities may include presenting data in charts, graphs and tables as well as designing and developing relational databases for collecting data.
  • Prepare presentations and reports.
  • Other duties/responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements: 

  • Candidate must have completed a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Economics, Engineering, Business, Business Analytics, Mathematics, Statistics or have demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • 2+ years of experience with developing, implementing and maintaining data collection systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in Power BI is highly preferred, including experience designing, building, and maintaining interactive dashboards and data visualizations.
  • Experience using Adobe InDesign to assist in the creation of professional reports and publications is an asset.
  • Ability to obtain data using ERP systems , interviews, document analysis, surveys, site visits, etc.
  • Experience utilizing data modeling / visualization tools such as Qlik, Tableau or Power BI.
  • High proficiency in Ms Excel data analysis and data visualization tools. (pivot tables/charts, lookup tables)
  • Math Skills: Understanding of basic statistical methods.
  • Proficiency in writing queries in VBA and SQL.
  • Proficient in using MS Office Suite.
  • Ability to collaborate and work effectively across internal (inter-departmental) functions areas; including the ability to manage competing interests and communicate successfully in both direct and indirect reporting relationships.
  • Ability to manage multiple activities simultaneously and complete on schedule.
  • Experience working with InDesign
  • Strong analytical skills; ability to gather, analyze and synthesize information. Must work with large amounts of data, facts, figures and numbers.
  • Communication Skills: Must communicate well with team members and ancillary resources.
  • Excellent Attention to Detail: The conclusions drawn from this data analysis will help in creating valuable publications and metrics that will highlight AECOM’s projects and success of its policies, etc. Accuracy and attention to detail are paramount.
