Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Sr. Principal AI Software Engineer to join the Advanced Autonomy Team (AAT). This team is part of the research and advanced development organization for developing the next autonomy technologies. This position will be located in Redondo Beach, CA, with the occasional field testing.
The job entails architecting modular, scalable, and robust autonomy solutions based on high-level requirements for behaviors and decision making; using agile development practices to implement, integrate, and test autonomy software in a virtual environment and on surrogate hardware, leading to potential flight test events. In addition, the job requires expertise in Java, C++, python and UCI messaging, as well as familiarity with open mission system architecture, containers, DevSecOps tools and processes to deploy reliable software.
This is to support the Autonomy Initiative by being the Mission Autonomy Lead for developing and maturing an autonomy solution for a flight demo in 2025.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university with 8 Years experience; OR a master’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university with 6 Years experience
Proficient in Linux-based development environment
Proficient in C++, Java, and python
Experience with micro-service architecture and writing mission critical software
Experience with OMS/UCI
Your ability to transfer and maintain the final adjudicated government Secret clearance (DoD must be in-scope or enrolled in Continuous Education), and any program access(es) required for the position within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company.
Preferred Qualifications:
Existing Department of Defense Secret level security clearance
Application of rules-based AI, ML, deep RL
Background in autonomy, pilot decision aids and unmanned platforms
Familiar with Atlassian toolset, Agile development practices and DevOps
Experience with Docker/Kubernetes container deployments
Strong understanding of design/dependency constraints when developing systems for SAP programs
Experience with SW/HW integration
