The Role

We are looking for a full-stack engineer to join the People+AI Research (PAIR) team to design and build interactive applications and their backend services, for the purpose of exploring the frontiers of human-AI collaboration with the latest generative models. What makes this job unique at Google:

• Working in foundational research on pushing the boundaries of what generative models can do to improve human experiences.
• The PAIR team is a cross-functional group of both human-AI interaction and machine learning researchers and engineers, who care deeply not just about algorithmic technology but also about design and human-AI collaboration.
• High impact for Google by exploring use-cases and creating tools that unlock new kinds of value from AI for our users.

Key responsibilities:

• Prototype and develop web apps and their backends that make use of the latest AI models to explore new realms of human-AI collaboration.
• Understand different types of end-users of these systems, including everyday users and domain experts.
• Collaborate with partner PAs/teams to graduate concepts from the research into production systems.

About You

In order to set you up for success as a Research/Software Engineer at Google DeepMind,  we look for the following skills and experience:

• Expertise in web front end development using modern web component technologies.
• Experience with Typescript preferred.
• Experience with Python and use of generative AI preferred.
• A perspective as a user of GenAI for your work, life, or personal projects.
• A knowledge of the basic workings of modern AI models.
• Experience working with researchers, in a fast-paced research to prototype environment.

In addition, the following would be an advantage: 

• Building GenAI applications with any / all products in the market.
• Experience with design of user-facing applications.
• Experience and interest in full stack web development.
• Experience conducting HCI or visualization research (e.g. past involvement with publications at CHI, IEEE Viz, UIST, IUI, ASSETS, etc.) and/or experience directly collaborating with HCI or Viz researchers.
