The Technical Data Governance Analyst will be responsible for managing the technical aspects related to Data Governance. This includes managing the backend of the Data Governance Systems such as Metadata Catalogues, Data Quality and Data Classification Tooling. The successful candidate will also be required to play an operational role in Data Quality Management which includes monitoring of data assets and anomalies, alerting the relevant stakeholders and managing the incident through to completion together with the impacted data steward. The Technical Data Governance Analyst will work closely with the Data Governance Lead and the Data Stewards to ensure all data governance requirements are catered for within the tools and technologies and is synchronised across all environments within the Bank.

KEY RESULT AREAS

Technical Delivery:

  • Collaborate with technical teams such as platform, security and operational teams to ensure alignment of data governance standards.
  • Administrate and manage the Data Governance Tools for metadata management, data quality management and data classification.
  • Manage partner relationships for data governance tools to ensure the bank is abreast of all new features or amendments within the tools.
  • Setup, manage and maintain all workflows required for the tools to operate efficiently, i.e. connectors, API’s etc.
  • Manage GitHub repositories related to Data Governance and ensure appropriate promotion strategies are in place.
  • Ensure all Pre-production and Production environments are aligned with data governance enrichment within the tools.
  • Ensure the tooling remains up to date and relevant to any new standards introduced or enhancements to existing standards.
  • Maintain documentation to support the use of the tools and their features as well as best practices to ensure governance of data within the tools.
  • Monitor and resolve data governance-related issues.
  • Provide training and support to end-users on data governance procedures and tools.
  • Ensure compliance with data privacy regulations, such as POPIA, GDPR and CCPA etc.
  • Review, analyse and continuously improve data governance standards and procedures in line with the tool’s technical capabilities.
  • Participate in data governance-related meetings and working groups.

Metadata Management

  • Setup, manage and maintain the Data Catalogue tool’s backend configurations.
  • Establish structures and custom attributes to enable data stewards in maintaining data dictionaries and data lineage documentation.
  • Setup and maintain playbooks and workflows as new data assets and domains are introduced.
  • Support the data stewards to automate any manual metadata enrichment.

Data Quality Management

  • Conduct data quality assessments and implement data quality improvements.
  • Assist business with identifying data quality requirements and implement monitoring and remediation processes.
  • Ability to identify and interpret trends in data to support and improve overall data quality.
  • Support data stewards with creating and promoting monitors across environments.
  • Monitor data quality alerts and support the data stewards to resolve any incidents to completion.

Data Classification and Tagging

  • Oversee data asset tagging process in line with the data classifications defined by the data stewards.
  • Support with ensuring that the appropriate tags are reflecting in the data catalogue tool across the various environments.
  • Ensure that roles are defined in line with the data security policy to limit the exposure of PII using the applied tags.

ROLE REQUIREMENTS

Experience:

  • Understanding of data management and data analysis.
  • Proficiency in using metadata catalogues and data quality tools.
  • Strong knowledge of data modelling and database technologies.
  • Strong skills in data governance, data integration, and data mapping.
  • Strong engineering and technical skills to manage repositories and configurations.
  • Responsible for regular communication with Partners.
  • Ensure adherence to an enterprise data governance framework for data practices, policies, and standards both at a technical and functional level.
  • Ensure effective internal controls by monitoring metrics and driving performance through improvement initiatives.
  • Champion enterprise data governance and data initiatives.
  • Deliver on data governance strategy and overall objectives.
  • Ensure data governance initiatives result in enterprise and functional benefits.
  • Facilitate the development and implementation of data standards and adoption requirements.
  • Strong project management, risk management and data governance skills.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or similar fields like Big Data, etc.
  • A minimum of 4 - 6 years of technical or data governance experience.
  • Related Data Governance certification(s) would be advantageous.
  • Ability to operationalize data governance and data quality across the enterprise.
  • Experience in implementing data management and governance roles, principles, processes and procedures.
  • Implementation of enterprise level data quality, master data management and related metrics.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
