Software Statistician II

 Contribute to the development and testing of our innovative and market-leading statistical software. Study complex and innovative statistical algorithms and test their implementation in Cytel’s software products.

  • Study requirements and software design carefully, especially from statistical perspective.
  • Actively discuss requirements and help the team develop good understanding of related statistical aspects.
  • Assist the Test Lead / SME write and review technical documents for algorithms, and develop validators in R, Python, etc.
  • Based on available test strategy, create and execute test cases on the application, and report and track any defects to closure.
  • Contribute to your team’s work by reviewing validation code written by other statisticians, and guiding juniors on statistical testing.
  • Acquire necessary cross-functional knowledge of Software Engineering concepts and processes to broaden your knowledge and contribute to project work more meaningfully.
  • Assist with project level activities like integration and regression testing, and relevant documentation.
  • Ensure on-time and high-quality delivery of software by working independently and productively, and performing statistical validation of complex features.
  • Participate actively in sprint planning, daily stand-ups, sprint demos, and retrospectives.
  • Develop a T-shaped technical skillset by undergoing appropriate trainings and courses, and attending relevant industry events.
  • Follow all applicable company policies.
  • Seek feedback on your performance and track progress on your goals regularly with the help of your manager, taking corrective actions as necessary.

Education:   

  • Master’s or Ph.D. in Statistics, Applied Statistics, or Mathematics

 

Experience: 

  • At least 2 years’ experience working as a Statistician in a software development team testing or programming statistical algorithms
  • Experienced Biostatisticians/Analysts/Data Scientists from Life Sciences industry with knowledge of areas like clinical trial designing or complex data analysis may be considered as well.
  • Experience working in Agile Scrum teams and knowledge of frameworks like Scrum is preferred, but not mandatory.

 

Skills: 

  • Strong knowledge of Statistics / Applied Mathematics, logical aptitude, and analytical skills
  • Expertise in scientific programming using languages like R, Python, or Julia (at least one of these)
  • Self-driven with the ability to think creatively and solve complex problems
  • Strong verbal and written English communication skills
  • Collaborative mindset and strong interpersonal skills

 

Optional Skills:

  • Knowledge of adaptive clinical trials for various phases, Bayesian methods applied to clinical trials, and methods of multiplicity adjustment is highly preferred.
  • Hands-on experience of working with test management tools (TestRail preferred) and other popular tools used in the SDLC process (JIRA, Confluence, Bitbucket, etc.)
  • Experience of software testing
