Junior Biostatistician Intern

Are you ready to dive into the world of genomics and data science? At SOPHiA GENETICS, we’re offering an exciting opportunity for a Junior Biostatistician Intern to join our team and help explore how gene conversion events and copy number variations (CNVs) can be detected in complex pseudogenic regions using Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS). 

You will be involved in: 

• NGS data exploration to gain initial insights, for example through testing the analytical performance of a pre-existing WGS algorithm. 

• Technical analysis, e.g. through statistical models, to evaluate how analytical performance may be improved. 

• Evaluation of the technical feasibility, e.g. by developing prototype algorithms, of such improvements. 

• Critical evaluation and management of the day-to-day running of the project. 

• Presentation of results to members of the team/department/senior management. 

Requirements

• PhD in a quantitative discipline (Statistics, Mathematics, Physics, Computational Biology, Data Science) 

• Excellent analytical and algorithmic skills. 

• Excellent understanding of statistical methods. 

• Some understanding/experience in manipulating NGS data (bam file or coverage) would be a plus. 

• Proficient in Python. Proficiency in another language (e.g. R) would be a plus. 

• Fluent English (spoken and written).  

• Independence and experience in driving research projects.  

• Good team-work and collaboration skills.  

• Good communication and presentation skills.
